Vancouver Film School
Founded in 1987, Vancouver Film School (VFS) is Canada's leading private institution dedicated to entertainment arts. Located in Vancouver — one of North America's most active film and production hubs — the school offers 14 intensive programs covering film production, 3D animation, visual effects, game design, acting, writing, sound design, and more. The VFS model is built on one core principle: one year of immersive, production-focused training is worth more than four years of purely theoretical study. All programs are taught by working industry professionals, and students are expected to build a professional-grade portfolio from day one. The result is a remarkably fast track to employment, with alumni credited in 2024 on all 10 of the year's highest-grossing films and 8 of the 10 best-selling games. With around 45% of its student body coming from outside Canada, VFS has earned a strong international reputation. Notable alumni include director Kevin Smith (Clerks) and animator Chad Moffitt, who won an Oscar for his work on The Lord of the Rings.
